Reboot 2006
Well, the old version served us well for nearly two years, but it was definitely time for a redesign. I don't know when it happened, but at some point the site went from looking fresh and exciting just looking sparse and dull. The 2006 Reboot seemed like as good an excuse as any to light a fire under us and get a redesign done.
We've learned a few things in the past two years. Mainly that actively maintaining a blog is tough work when you're incredibly busy. Add to that the fact that the blog's position as the central focus of the home page made me feel like anything posted needed to be a well-crafted piece, reflective of the quality I want TDCD to be identified with. To counter this, we've moved the blog off the home page (except for headlines) and over to its own section where we hope it will live and thrive without the pressure to be the company's main voice.
Most of the other changes intend to freshen up the look and take us that much further from TDCD's first website and overall identity, circa 2002/03. We've completely phased out the original logo and introduced more use of our favorite typeface. The home page features a prominent promo area which will be used to highlight some new services in the upcoming months.
Probably the biggest — and nearly transparent — change is our long overdue upgrade to ExpressionEngine. EE is hands down our favorite CMS/blog package out there and our usual pick for client sites, so it feels good to finally be up-to-date ourself. With the upgrade to EE, I've finally decided to allow comments, so, feel free to comment on the redesign — we'd love to hear what everyone has to say.
