New Team Members, New Skills

Hiring the right people is a tough thing to do. Seems like the best of them already have plenty to keep themselves busy. It is very fortunate then that a few of those very talented folks have committed their time to helping build our little shop into what it is today. It's always exciting to welcome new faces and new talents.

It's hard to think of Phil Barbato as a new face at this point — he's been here since November of last year. Just his luck (or more precisely, ours) that he would arrive at one of the busiest times in our 5 year history. So it's very belatedly that I welcome Phil.

When Phil's not sewing plush, he's our go-to Flash design and development expert and much more. With a degree in sculpture from VCU and a background serving up interactive for education and professional industry clients, Phil brings a quirky balance of art and expertise since last fall and we're happy to have him around.

Joining us more recently from the world of editorial and publication design is Roy Wilhelm. Roy's experience at Richmond area newspapers and magazines conveys well into the medium of web where storytelling meets systems design at every turn. Roy will be our man in DC after August while his wife attends grad school. Look for him at AIGA DC events where he'll be on the board as Programming Coordinator.

I always find myself looking around for additional team members when we're at (or sometimes, over) capacity. That's certainly been the case with Phil and Roy. But bringing both of these guys on has been much more of a strategic decision than simply a practical one. With their unique backgrounds and skills we've expanded our ability to create richly interactive storytelling sites and graphics. It's the kind of stuff we find that we truly satisfying and it's great to be able to do more of it — and better.

Sadly, we say farewell to Mike Dupre. Mike was with us for two years and contributed some of the absolute best work that has come out of this shop yet. That's not to mention how is dev skills raised the bar for all of us here to learn more, faster. Good luck Mike!
