Americans Using the Internet to Cope With the Recession
A Pew Research Center study finds that 69% of all Americans (88% of internet users) have used the Internet to cope with the current economic recession — comparing prices, looking for jobs, improving skills, and simply piecing the economic story together. The results are especially high with broadband users with those users preferring online research to print publications.

I can't say I find all of this terribly surprising. When you're trying to make sense of a complex issue such as this recession, you would do well sort through as many sources as possible. Doing so online is just faster and more convenient.
With such a broad spectrum and high number of people looking to the internet for answers, it does strike me as an opportunity, particularly for those that publish content. If you've already been producing content related to the recession, consider collecting and consolidating it for easy browsing (and sharing!). Many CMSs give you easy ways to do this via tags or categories.
If you haven't been writing about the recession, now may be the time to start. What questions do your customers or readers have about the topic and where can you provide some insight? Chances are they're looking for that insight. The value you provide now could last until we all start to see the light at the end of our economic tunnel.
