Interview with Threadless Developers

Two blog posts in one day -- a rare event indeed.

Business Week has a series of podcasts, including this interview with the developers of Threadless.com, skinnyCorp's Jacob DeHart and Jeffrey Kalmikoff. Well worth a listen. I've always admired sites that are able to tap into the creativity of their audiences. Threadless is a great example of successful community building at work and DeHart and Kalmikoff have some great thoughts on the matter.

Recognizing a Secured Site

I was working on a site audit for a client as a part of a transition to a new CMS and server arrangement. As I started poking around to see how everything functioned, I noticed that their shopping cart's checkout screen -- the one that takes the customer's credit card info -- is completely unsecured. The site was launched late last year and it's amazing to me that in that time no one has noticed. They've done plenty of sales through their site, so what this says to me is that people still don't know how to tell if a site is secure.

Refresh Richmond Wrap-up

We had a incredible turnout for last Wednesday's first-ever Refresh Richmond. The audience included a number of friends and acquaintances that I see on a regular basis at AIGA and Ad Club functions, but also whole lot of people I have never seen before. I have long suspected that the Richmond-area web crowd is hungry for content that is relevant to their work. Wednesday's meeting seemed to confirm that.

Rolling Out the $1000 Site Deal

We soft-launched what we're calling the "$1000 Sites" deal last Friday. The basics of the deal are that you get a custom-designed, one page site in one week for $1000. We think it's a pretty good deal and I'll try to explain why.
